Just an hour from Hyde Park, the Indiana Dunes make a great shakedown hike. We took the South Shore Line, tackled the 3 Dune Challenge (552 vertical feet of sand!), and had lunch on the beach looking back at the Chicago skyline.
Lessons learned
- Sand gets everywhere. Gaiters help.
- Bring more water than you think.
- The view from Mount Tom is worth it.
